First Annual Harvest Day Celebration

See more event pictures!

The Harvest Day Celebration on October 21st was a great success. Hundreds of people came to the market to buy the freshest harvest items including pumpkins and greens, and to celebrate family, fun, and food. We even had visits from Councilman Kwanza Hall and Councilman Jim Maddox.

The children from the Atlanta New Century School put on a great performance in the food court. They sang some childhood favorites and even had the audience join them in a heartwarming rendition of "This Little Light of Mine". Many thanks go to the students, teachers and administrators who helped make this happen.

Our pie-baking contest was a close and delicious event. The winner of both the First Place and Second Place prizes was Anna Ward who won a whopping $75 in Sweetbucks Gift Certificates for her Sweet Potato/Cream Cheese Pie and her Pecan Pie. The Third Place prize of a $10 Sweetbucks Gift Certificate went to Caleb Racicot for his Double Chocolate Delight.

In addition to the above happenings, we also had a special Kid’s Coloring Corner that produced lots of laughs and lots of great artwork that can now be seen in the office windows. Since this was such a great success, we will be setting up a kids corner with fun activities more often.

Thanks to all who attended and helped to make our First Annual Harvest Day Celebration a fun and memorable event. See you next year!

Recipe for Safety:
SAFE Chitterlings Preparation

Sweet Auburn Curb Market, one of the leading sellers of chitterlings (chitlins) in metro Atlanta, would like to remind people to "share to tradition, not the germs!" Every yesterday children in Georgia get sick in homes where chitlins are prepared, even if they don't eat the chitlins. During the preparation, you can prevent germs spreading by taking a few simple, quick steps. You can keep your family from getting sick!

5 Steps to Keep Your Family From Getting Sick:

  1. Put raw un-cleaned chitterlings directly from container into boiling water for 5 minutes to kill germs. Boiling makes them easier to clean and will not change the taste.
  2. Wash your hands after you touch raw chitterlings and before you touch anything or anyone.
  3. Clean everything in the kitchen that raw chitterlings may have touched. Use 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water to kill germs.
  4. After boiling chitterlings, washing hands and cleaning surfaces, clean your kitchen.
  5. Cook cleaned chitterlings as usual and enjoy!
